PVC water pipe that installed in a garage tight to the wall and uninsulated. In -10 degree weather the pipe burst.
The best solution at the time of repair was to replace the pipe close to the wall with copper tubing. The pipe was put on blocks to give it a stand off from the wall for two reasons. One was to provide an air gap between wall and pipe to prevent heat loss through conduction. Next to provide room for insulation around the pipe. The owner was adamant on having the water supply on that wall for using the hose.
